This is our first Live Edge River Table and we are proud of how it turned out. It originated from a large salvaged urban western Maple tree that was slated for firewood. As luck would have it, we were able to save it before it was cut up. We then loaded it on a flat bed truck and hauled it to the sawmill where the beauty of this find was immediately evident. A rare tree indeed. We were able to get several highly figured live edge slabs out of this tree and have had them air drying in our shop for approximately 4 years as we mulled over what to do with such a rare and beautiful find.
The feature tinted blue river glass is 1/4″ thick and tempered for safety. It is custom cut to fit to the piece of wood, making each and every live edge river table a one of a kind. All of this is mounted firmly on a custom made solid steel base with adjustable feet. The base is made from 3/4″ solid plate steel and weighs in at 80lbs each. The base is powder coated with a black semigloss hammered finish for a refined look, as well as durability.
Creating a 10 person live edge river table that was uniquely ours came down to, in big part, leg design. We wanted to create legs that were simple enough to not compete with with the table top for your attention, but still had to fit in terms of proportion, strength, and functionality. In order to do this we wanted to use a thicker gauge steel to provide ample strength and weight which allowed us to separate it from sitting right under the glass. Inspired by a bridge type structure, the “Y” shape is incredibly strong while remaining slender.
The table top finish is a 3 coat conversion varnish that provides outstanding durability against every day products found in the home and offers excellent depth and clarity, while still maintaining a smooth and natural feel.
